Earthquakes

Most Vermonters may think of California when they hear the word earthquake, however, earthquakes do occur regularly in New England and Vermont is one of the 45 states considered at risk. A number of seismic stations are located throughout the northeast, and area seismologists are recording and studying data in the hope of being able to predict area earthquakes someday. In the meantime, pre-existing faults in New England bedrock are believed to be one of the factors related to seismic activity in the area.
