Thunder/Lightning Storms
Statistics show that lightning kills more people than hurricanes or tornadoes. Thunderstorms tend to occur in spring and summer, and the number of days in Vermont with thunderstorms and lightning range from 20 to 30. One-third of the storms are severe. A severe storm can have winds of 60 miles per hour or more with hail of up to ¾-inch in diameter. Heavy rains can precipitate flash flooding.
