Fire
Structural fires are always a threat for any number of reasons, from old or inferior wiring, cracked woodstove chimney tiles, cooking grease, or cigarettes, to name a few. With its woodlands, hayfields and brushy areas, Vermont is also a danger zone for forest, or wildland, fires. Fires can start by such natural forces as a lightning strike, or by carelessness with burning brush, unattended campfires or cigarettes. Most wildland fires burn slowly along the forest floor; however, some spread rapidly by wind along treetops or through grassy areas.
