Steps to Safety

Tornado

Hazards

Tornado

  • Tune in to your EAS radio station.
  • Find shelter in your basement.
  • If your house does not have a basement, go to an interior room in the center of the first-floor level.
  • Take cover under a study table and use your arms to protect your head and neck from debris.
  • Listen to your EAS radio station for updates.
  • If you are in a motor vehicle or mobile home, immediately go to a sturdy building or storm shelter.
  • If you are outside, find a ditch or depression and lie flat, covering your head with your hands. A ditch is safer than a bridge or underpass.
