Extreme Heat

  • Stay indoors, avoiding exposure to the sun.
  • Close drapes, shades or shutters and lower awnings to keep out heat from the sun.
  • Use fans or air conditioning, or stay in basement or lowest floor.
  • Take cool showers.
  • Eat light meals and drink plenty of fluids.
  • Dress in lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat outside.
  • Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise.
  • Limit alcohol and caffeine, which are diuretics and increase the risk of dehydration.
